Additional Shopify Costs

Unfortunately, Shopify plan and fees are not the only costs you are obliged to pay. There is a number of essential points which are worth taking into consideration.

Domain and hosting

You won’t have a domain included in Shopify plan but you can buy it ( Shopify domain price is 13,99 dollars per year) or use your domain which already exists. Also, you can get free templates for your Shopify store if you need them having basic features but for additional features you should buy paid ones.

Email hosting isn’t offered in Shopify but if you buy or own a domain, a third-party hosting services could provide email forwarding which is cheap(from $1 till $5 monthly) and unlimited. Of course, you are to manage them yourself with email hosting provider. On the premium plans you are thrown on Shopify hosting for free without any hosting fees included.

You can give up any plan at any time without additional fees but if you are sticked to the yearly one, you won’t get the money back. That’s why many Shopify store owners prefer taking monthly plans neglecting the chance of saving money.

Which Shopify plan to choose?

If you’ve already stopped the search of an e-commerce solution on Shopify, you won a lot because it’s one of the most reliable and multi-functional platforms for building an online store. The next step is to choose a Shopify plan suitable for your business. Here you should take into account such factors:

  • your financial budget – as you already saw in the comparison table, Shopify plans have a lot of additional costs which you will have to pay if you don’t want your store to disappear from the top list. So plan your spendings including possible risks;
  • your current annual income – some Shopify plan costs differ depending on the amount of your annual revenue of the business, e.g. a Shopify store with income of $10k can take Shopify Plus plan for $2000 + additional costs but won’t live too long;
  • the scalability of your store – you should consider the size of your business and the set of functions it needs to keep its scalability and profitability;
  • store prospectiveness and future growth – switch to the business analysts to understand if your store is going to grow and how fast it will happen. Choose Shopify plan referring to this information.
